We have been planning a winter weekend get-away to Duluth for some time now with the family Heydt. Nate and Alina surprised us with WILCO tickets for the night we arrived, and the weekend just got better after that. We caught up with old pals from our Duluth days. We ate great food thanks to Alina and Pizza Luce. The cousins mixed it up and seemed to have a good time together. We caught up with buddies Dave + Holly Jorde. Nate and I skied Magney, Snowflake and the Sucker River. Incredible pretty! It was one of those Duluth weekends that makes you reconsider your current address. The sky was bright blue. The great lake was full of pancake ice. We found a lifetime of trails to explore. And there’s a new sushi restaurant that is reportedly excellent.
Friends joined us this weekend in Duluth at Nate & Alina’s house for our first ever baby shower. It was a grand affair, marking our first visit to Duluth in 2008.
In attendance were:
Nate, Alina, Tenzin, Rilo
Kelly, Courtney, Brinnon, Marilyn
Tia, Souliyahn, Silo (drove up from Minneapolis – way to go team!)
Holly (& Dave, telepathically, from Sweden)
Amanda, Matt, Avery (drove up from Northfield – special props for that!)
Casey, Cord, Avery, Welles
Kim, Tom, Nore
Moe-dawg, Kyle, Stella
Rob, Rebecca (+1)
Good food & good buddies who showered us with baby tools – hardware and software – to welcome us into parenthood. We had an excellent time. Our deepest thanks to all who joined us.
It is interesting to see the evolution of our Duluth buddies. Not but a few years ago, we were all swinging singles at Tuesday Night Dinners. Going on trail runs through Chester, taste-testing at the Brewhouse, camping on the North Shore.
As we looked around the room at our buddies on Saturday night, the discussion now centered on daycare, and soup recipes, as a dozen kids were ripping it up in the living room.
It’s great to grow (old) with these people. It’s going to be even greater to join them as parents. If all goes according to plan, we will have a little one the next time we are in Duluth (for Grandma’s Marathon). Can’t wait!
