Taking A Break

Taking a break from more important things in our lives is critical to a day’s success. It’s important to take a moment to reflect, a breath, to do something that allows you to step outside of your mind, your work, and all of the other myriad of things you have to think about in a day. You can look out the window. Go for a walk. Close your eyes and meditate on nothingness for a 5 breath count. Or, you can watch YouTube.

My preference of late has been a particular video which was brought to my attention by an astute local home-brewer and friend, Nate Solas. It’s a novel in 3 minutes, 57 seconds. From the come-hither opening dance sequence to the mysterious caged-lion emotional state of the lead character to the entranced audience members – one of which you’ll inevitably become. You’ll lip sync the words. You’ll wonder at the lead lady’s beautiful locks, you’ll say to yourself – moves like this can only be borne out of the hopes and dreams of an entire nation, expressed through the love of one eloquent woman. You’ll feel like an airplane pilot coming in for a landing when suddenly you notice the gorgeous sunset off to the west over the mountains and you’ll look a moment too long as the altitude light begins to flash.

And in the end, you’ll have gone somewhere else entirely from the place you began. And then, you can get back to work.
