Bathtime 17 Mos

Life At 17 Mos.

Little MFW broke into her 17th month with a flurry of new words and independent actions. Continuing with her interest in footwear, yesterday she put on her red boots by herself. Last week she navigated her pink crocs each onto the correct foot. This morning when her mother arrived on the scene during smoothie time, Maeva looked down at her mother and said “Pree Shoe!” which we took to mean “pretty shoes Ma” and heralded her as our morning genius. High 5, little tiger.

Summer

We are over due for a summer review here at ‘quipe W. It has been a good one. Friends have visited from near and far. Home projects were seriously completed. A garden grown. Babies blossomed in the arms of friends. Sleeping under the stars was fait accompli and fish, though too few, were caught. Yard games were thrown. The BBQ was fired up regularly. Bottles were uncapped. Warm sunrises and sunsets were admired. And through it all, little Maeva’s baby mullet fluffed out around her ears and grew admirably like a blonde squirrel pelt. Meg regularly puts her in pigtails or in a Teletubby poof on the top of her head (which truly enhances the mullet). Summer 2009 has drawn to a close with a cold wind blowing sticks and leaves from the trees. A photo review is on the horizon, and likely more frequent blog updates.

Statistical & Observational Update

  • Weight vs. Height: Approx 26 lbs. She is definitely thinning out a bit, and growing taller. Height: (get back to you on that one).
  • Teeth: All sorts of chompers at this point. She has a nice little smile. At last count a dozen teeth in addition to her eye teeth tickling her gums and making her crazy.
  • Health: She passed a little cold off to papa last week. We both got over it. No big whoop. We have however instituted anti-flu measures at the household.
  • Mood: Curious, playful, personable and cuddly most of the time. Turns ornery and causing trouble (looking over her shoulder, waiting for us to see her and then doing things – like touching the stove knobs – she knows she is not supposed to do) when she is feeling under appreciated, tired or hungry.
  • Understanding: She is rapidly picking up language, putting words together, and figuring out how things work. Every day she pulls out something new. She does in nonchalantly like she has been doing it forever. It’s incredible, and too much to list here at this juncture. She inspects (and wants) just about everything.
  • Physical Abilities: She can walk backwards (which she has to really concentrate to do – so cute!) ride her trike, get up on the couch, run pretty quickly, and kickflip a skateboard (just kidding). She still falls down a lot, and generally laughs it off thanks to a butt padded in diaper, but she is much more sure on her feet these days.

More soon. Peas out.

The discovery of garden fresh cherry tomatoes. They fit perfectly into MFW’s little mit, and equally so into her bouche.
