When The Whales Showed Up

Whales surfaced just behind us as we said our vows (No joke, honest-to-god whales, complete with a blow-hole blast). Knowing not all of our siblings would be able to join us we kept it small – just Meg’s folks and Jeremy’s mother and her husband. It was one of those deals where everything seemed to work out perfectly – the whole trip long. We found fantastic lodging downtown Puerto Vallarta, the weather was warm and sunny, our wedding celebrant, whom we found online, turned out to be goofy and great – along with her video-taping sidekick Antonio. Our folks were gracious, totally supportive, and didn’t look bored as we read our novel-length vows at sunset on the beach. Tears flowed. A crowd gathered. It was one of those times when a small group of humans actually begin to glow. The sunset radiated and filled us. Then the whales surfaced.
Later that night, as we celebrated over seafood at a hut on the beach, a stranger bought us a bottle of champagne. We danced in the sand. The band played on. The night grew late. Eventually back at our villa, we found our bed draped in a lacy white blanket, covered with rose petals and Mexican candies, which guaranteed us a sweet life together.
Last night we quietly celebrated our second wedding anniversary after Jw peddaled home for two hours in a snowstorm. Meg made our favorite meal. We looked at one another across the table and smiled. This marriage thing was the best we have ever done in our separate lives. And our union grows stronger pretty much every day. And it was consecrated by whales. And now we are 3, as junior grows in Meg’s belly. Outside the snow falls wet and heavy. Inside we have a beach in Mexico forever. Forever.
I love you Megan, my wife. My love!
